Nivalis Nights Lochlainn's Pain: Mask and Fundraising Guide

Quick Answer

Follow Raluca’s mask lead through Vik Ryan to Idlehands, organize the 40,000-Lim campaign with Banor, seek community support early, then complete the mask conversation.

On this page

Lochlainn's Pain in Nivalis Nights asks you to help your manager Lochlainn McKenna obtain an oxyphile mask for his sick son Iann. Start by asking Raluca about her mask, follow her supplier lead through Vik Ryan to Idlehands, and organize a fundraising campaign with Banor. Idlehands offers a 40,000-Lim price, and the campaign dialogue gives you four weeks to raise it.

The most useful early actions are securing support that reaches whole communities, rather than only collecting isolated donations. Raluca, Clancy Pantermino, Reena, Hanz, and Huckstash have different ways to help. Some later conversations change if you approached them too late, so start those connections while the campaign is still young.

The site baseline is Update #4. Detailed timing conditions and conversation effects are interpreted from build 25738165, without an independent playthrough here. The data does not establish a guaranteed donor schedule or prove that every contribution listed below can be combined in one save.

Recognize the starting conditions and Iann's problem

Lochlainn McKenna character portrait

Ava's notification about Lochlainn is associated with him being hired and with the final Gamova conversation from The Aseptic. These are story-progression clues, not tasks you perform by changing technical flags. If Ava has not raised the issue, check your employee and investigation progress rather than assuming that a donation menu is already unlocked.

Speak to Lochlainn about his worries. He explains that Iann has had breathing problems since infancy and that the family spends heavily on treatment. He has already sought medical opinions, so the story does not present a second opinion as a simple replacement for the mask.

The initial discussion names a normal price of 200,000 Lims. That amount explains why the family cannot afford the device; it is not the final price you will necessarily pay. Your next useful lead is someone in the lower city who already owns a mask: Raluca.

If you know Raluca, the conversation can acknowledge her directly. If you have not met her, the quest includes a first-introduction version. Those are alternative introductions, not two separate Raluca investigations you must complete consecutively.

Trace the supply through Raluca and Vik Ryan

Ask Raluca what her mask cost and where it came from. She says it was expensive even as used black-market equipment and identifies Vik Ryan as the trader who brought it down from the Spire. Her stated 100,000-Lim price belongs to her earlier purchase, not an offer to sell you her own mask.

Speak to Vik about an oxyphile mask. He says Raluca's was a one-off piece of stock and does not simply offer you another at the same price. Keep the discussion focused on the sick child and the original supplier. The conversation eventually names Idlehands.

You do not need to steal Raluca's mask or repay a separate debt to Vik to follow this supply chain. Neither action is part of the documented objectives here. The useful result of the two conversations is the supplier's name, which gives you the next concrete contact.

Vik can later contribute to the campaign despite initially refusing to provide equipment. That is a later story turn, not evidence that his first denial was a puzzle requiring you to buy an unrelated item from him.

Ask the doctors about the mask's value

The route includes medical-advice conversations with R M Alken and Dr Fred Matombo. Alken will discuss oxyphiles generally while maintaining confidentiality about a specific patient. Ask the general mask question rather than treating her refusal to disclose Iann's case as proof that the conversation is blocked.

Alken says a mask can help if its oxygen cartridges are affordable and emphasizes urgency. Matombo considers Alken the specialist and does not offer an alternative treatment that makes the mask unnecessary. These conversations establish why the campaign matters within the story.

They do not create a separate verified cartridge-purchasing objective in the supplied route. Likewise, the doctors' dialogue should not be interpreted as real-world medical advice; this is the fictional condition that the quest asks you to address through the mask supply chain.

The later fundraising scene can involve either doctor bringing a collection. Since their dialogue describes a shared effort, do not pre-add two identical contributions and promise both are available. Follow the doctor conversation that your campaign presents and check the resulting funds.

Hear Idlehands' reduced price and organize staff tips

Idlehands initially treats the request skeptically, but the conversation about an eight-year-old child leads to an offer of 40,000 Lims. He says you will need to pool resources and return with the cash. Complete this discussion before planning around the campaign target.

Talk to Banor about the staff helping Iann. The plan is a voluntary four-week collection of tips, not a permanent change to wages or a command to stop paying employees. Banor says the team wants to help their manager and later reports the result.

The campaign amount is tracked as dedicated funding in the dialogue effects. It should not be assumed to be identical to ordinary spendable money in your pocket. Some choices also involve contributing your own cash, so read the actual offer rather than treating all funding gains as free personal income.

With the target and collection underway, approach the broader supporters early. Their later complaints about missed opportunities explain why waiting until the last week can change the help you receive.

Prioritize supporters who extend the campaign

Raluca can explain the condition

Raluca says she has little money but can use her experience with the mask to explain Iann's condition and legitimize the campaign. Ask for that help instead of stopping when she says she cannot make a large personal donation.

Her later conversations distinguish a belated approach from an established contribution effort. She can report a smaller collection if you did not consult her early, or a later amount from the work she has done. These scenes are useful evidence that timing affects the story, without establishing an exact optimal daily route.

Clancy can provide publicity

Clancy Pantermino can put marketing resources behind the appeal and says he will forward donations weekly. The conversation frames his cooperation in business and publicity terms; he is not simply handing over unlimited funds on request.

An early approach leads to campaign support. A later discussion still offers a way to argue for advertising space, while the final late-contact version says there is no time for the full campaign and gives a one-off contribution instead. His claim that he can halve collection time is dialogue, not a measured fundraising formula this guide can guarantee.

Reena can put Iann's name in lights

Reena offers her art and public support. If you ask early, she can make the boy the focus of her work. The later scene can acknowledge those lights and add a contribution after she obtains paid work.

If you wait, she can explain that a new contract leaves no time for that larger effort and offer a smaller sum. This difference supports prioritizing her public support rather than treating her as just another fixed cash pickup.

Hanz can approach hotel guests

Hanz recognizes the campaign and offers to ask his guests for help, along with a personal contribution. The later collection disappoints him because the guests give little, and he rounds it up himself.

This is a customer-network opportunity. You are not required to run a concert, book a hotel room, or collect money directly from every guest. Those details occur in Hanz's report; your documented action is the conversation with him.

Huckstash can reach his community

Huckstash offers a modest donation and to spread the word. Accepting what he can give continues toward community support. Responding that the amount is too small ends that exchange without the same offered follow-through.

Later conversations can ask you to match or round up collections using your own money. The choices depend on whether you can afford the stated contribution. Those optional payments should be considered separately from accepting the community's existing donation.

Collect individual contributions without inventing a total

Several people arrive at the noodle stand or become campaign contacts. The recorded conversations include the following amounts, but these are branch-specific contributions rather than a promise that every row appears in every campaign.

Talk to contacts while their campaign objectives are available. Some scenes are associated with daytime, including Calhoun, Alexander, Huckstash, Gladstone, and Teleshko. A missing nighttime interaction is therefore not enough to show that the contact permanently vanished.

Do not combine every alternative late and early supporter amount into an alleged guaranteed total. The community campaign contains timing-dependent scenes, and the supplied information does not verify the complete weekly calculation. The reliable goal is the funding target and your save's current result.

Read Huckstash's matching offers carefully

One later Huckstash scene brings 207 Lims from himself and his community. If you choose to match it and have enough ordinary cash, the recorded effect spends 207 of your own Lims and adds a combined 414 to campaign funding. Declining to match still records the community's 207 contribution.

Another scene reports 1,894 Lims, which you can round up to 2,000 by contributing 106. That is a different optional payment. Do not mistake the campaign's final rounded amount for how much was removed from your personal funds.

These choices illustrate why looking only at your personal balance can be misleading. A campaign increase and a player expenditure can happen in the same exchange. Check the proposal's amount and response before treating a lower personal balance as a missing donation.

Handle corporate objections and the possible shortfall

Mary-Nyx Curzona threatens the campaign and later presents borrowing from her as a way to obtain the missing money. Agent Teleshko also objects before his later small donation. These confrontations are story events, not instructions to abandon the campaign as soon as someone disapproves.

Calhoun initially presents himself as a possible lender. However, the later shortfall conversation says that a visit from Mary-Nyx has stopped him helping and directs you to her. Do not plan around a guaranteed Calhoun loan simply because his earlier conversation offered one.

Mary-Nyx's later discussion involves supplying the balance and adding debt. The supplied effects include a funding assignment and a debt expression whose exact evaluated order is not independently confirmed. This guide therefore does not promise a precise final debt increase from the raw expression.

If the game presents the shortfall route, read the debt terms and remaining objective before continuing. If it presents Lochlainn's sad conversation, he acknowledges that the campaign did not raise enough. That is distinct from the successful funding discussion and should not be overwritten in a guide by assuming Idlehands' later claim automatically rescues every failed path.

Finish the funding result and Idlehands conversation

When the successful conversation becomes available, tell Lochlainn that the campaign raised enough and that you are going to Idlehands. Extra-funding versions mention having some left over; they do not create a different mask model or an optional second device to buy.

Go to Idlehands for the mask conversation. The important revelation is that he already had a spare and his runner has delivered it to the family. The documented ending therefore does not require you to carry a physical mask to Lochlainn's house after he tells you the delivery is done.

Idlehands claims he would have accepted whatever the campaign raised even if it missed the target. Treat that as his statement in this successful handover scene. The route also contains a separate sad outcome, so the claim is not proof that doing nothing guarantees Iann receives a mask in every save.

The completion checks are the campaign's actual outcome, Lochlainn's conversation, and Idlehands' confirmation of delivery. A personal cash balance reaching 40,000, a single donor saying they will help, or an initial promise from a lender is not the same as completing those story checkpoints.
